In the present study, a series of chalconelsemicarbazone was synthesized and evaluated for their antipyretic activity using boiled cow milk induced pyrexia in rabbits. Based on the results of an antipyretic study, compound 25 was the most active compound. The lengthening of carbon chain significantly increased antipyretic activity whereas unsubstituted compounds showed less protection against hyperthermia....
The present study was conducted in day old White Leghorn cockerels. An approximate medium lethal dose (ALD50) of alphacypermethrin used for the study was 562.5 mg/kg body weight. Sixty birds were randomly divided into five different groups, C1, C2, T1, T2 and T3. Alphacypermethrin was administered at dose rates of 14.0625 mg/kg, 18.725 mg/kg and 28.125 mg/kg for 28 days daily in corn oil. Blood sample was collected on day 15 and day 29 to study effect on various hematological and biochemical parameters. Alphacypermethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide significantly increased the activities of serum transaminases (ALT, AST), alkalne phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatinine (CRT) and serum glucose level, while it significantly decreased the total serum protein (TP), albumin (ALB) and globulin (GLB) level, but no alterations on hematological parameters in treated group of birds compared to control group of birds. The insecticide also produced adverse effects on kidney, lung, liver, thymus, spleen and bursa as observed in Gross pathological findings of the study. It is concluded that alphacypermethrin significantly altered the biochemical parameters in white leghorn cockerels after repeated oral exposure....
In ayurvedic the leaves of the Tephrosia purpurea Linn. is useful in jaundice and the decoction of the roots given in dyspepsia, diarrhea rheumatism, asthma and urinary disorders. But there is no scientific evidence for cancer study of cell line cytotoxicity. In this study areal part of Tephrosia purpurea were collected and identified and the cytotoxic effects of Hydro alcoholics (ethanol 70%), chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts on human cancerous cell line (HeLa) were determined. Different concentration of the extracts were added to the cultured cells and incubated for 72 h. cell survival was evaluated using MTT assay. The ethyl acetate extract of T. purpurea at tested concentrations showed a comparable cytotoxic effect to taxol against HeLa cell (15 µg/ml). In conclusion, the higher cytotoxic activity seen with ethylactate extract may be related to the presence of lipophilic glycosides as non-polar compounds extracted by ethylacelate....
Abstract: Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) arrest cholesterol induced increase in membrane Ca++ permeability which inhibits Cell growth and prevent atherosclerosis in animals with Hyperlipidemia, nitric oxide production from endothelial cells, superoxide anion scavenge and ACE inhibition. EDTA does partial removal of Ca++ from atherosclerotic plaque, reduction of free radical production and lipid peroxidation, improves Ca++/Mg++ balance, reduce platelet aggregation and improve blood flow. Hence, the study was undertaken to establish the role of Ca++ on lipid profile using various CCBs and EDTA therapy in combination with Atorvastatin in Wistar Albino Rats. Group 1: Normal, 2: Control, 3: ATR, 4: Atorvastatin and Amlodipine, 5: Atorvastatin and Diltiazem, 6: Atorvastatin and Verapamil, 7: Atorvastatin and EDTA. Normal group received a standard commercial rat chow diet while other groups received a high cholesterol diet for 21 days. Atorvastatin, Amlodipine, Diltiazem, Verapamil and EDTA solutions were administered orally once daily for 21 days to respective groups. The HCD has significantly increased serum TC, TG and VLDL levels while serum HDL, LDL, HDL/LDL ratio, atherogenic index and serum calcium levels were not significantly affected in control group as compared with normal group. Atorvastatin significantly decreased serum TG, VLDL-C and serum Ca++. Atorvastatin-Amlodipine combination has significantly decreased serum TC and LDL-C as compared with control group. Atorvastatin-Diltiazem combination has significantly decreased TC and LDL-C as compared with control group and has significantly increased serum Ca++ as compared with Atorvastatin group. Atorvastatin-Amlodipine combination has significantly decreased SOD level and increased GSH and catalase level as compared with control group. In conclusion, there is no significant effect of EDTA after oral administration. So, further investigation can be done by changing the EDTA route of administration (i.e. intra venous)....
Recent years have seen augmented rise in the incidence of melanoma worldwide. Although it is well understood that melanoma occurs due to interplay between genetic and environmental factors. Both of these factors involved genetic and molecular pathways. In this review we marked our attention towards molecular, genetic and computational basis of melanoma. In this review we attempted to explain, some pathways which are involved in melanoma. It has been seen that within last few years, lot of overwhelming amount of information about molecular genetics of melanoma had accumulated. However , still there are some significant mutation which yet not have been identified and demands high-tech techniques which includes wide genome sequencing, High-tech computational techniques like ESTs , It is anticipated that in silico studies, and novel controlled in vivo animal models will lead to successful strategies for the prevention and more effective therapy for melanoma....
Cancer model was developed using syngenic model of cancer studies in which three different groups of 6 animal each was made. CT26 cell lines are use for induction of tumor which was purchased from ATCC .One group contains vehicle control group and other two groups was assigned as treatment groups in which one is treated with Avastin 2mg/kg alternate day i.v. treatment for two weeks(early stage) and again for same schedule in late stage similarly other group is treated with Paclitaxel 5mg/kg i.v on alternate day treatment for 5 times (early stage) and same pattern was used for late stage schedule .The result of present study successfully provides a single model to screen anticancer compound in early stage as well as in late stage....
The present study was carried out to investigate toxico-pathological effect of dexamethasone in Wistar rats. Out of four groups of rats (6 rats/sex/group), one group was kept as control and other three groups were treated with dexamethasone alone at three different dose levels (2.5, 6.25 and 12.5 mg/kg). Dexamethasone formulated in filtered water was administered by oral route to the treatment group of animals for a period of two weeks and control group animals received vehicle alone. At the end of the treatment period, all surviving rats were subjected to terminal necropsy. Absolute organ weight of adrenals, heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, testes, ovaries, epididymides, uterus, seminal vesicles, thymus, lungs and brain were taken to estimate relative organ weight. Organs showing gross pathological findings were processed and histopathological examination was performed. Two weeks repeated administration of dexamethasone revealed significant decrease in absolute weight of adrenals, spleen and thymus in both the sexes. Similar findings were evident in relative organ weight of both male and female rats from treatment groups as compared to control group. Histopathological findings in treated groups revealed atrophy of adrenal cortex, fatty infiltration of femur bone and decreased bone marrow mass, fatty infiltration and congestion in liver, alveolar histiocytosis in lungs, lymphoid depletion in spleen and lymph nodes. The present study was carried out to investigate toxico-pathological effect of dexamethasone in Wistar rats.
